An Elephant Sized Appetite

Wow - they are HUGE!!!
Imagine hand-feeding an Indian Elephant - the enormous trunk delicately picking a tiny little piece of fruit out of our hand. A trunk that can lift heavy logs or even a grown man, reaches towards you as you bravely place your arm out.
Then surprisingly delicately, the elephant gently pluck the fruit out of your hand. Not scary at all!
Suddenly its all over and you're heading out to wash your hands!

Although the experience lasts just a couple of seconds, the queue moves quickly and you can jump back into the queue ready for another go. A minute or two later, you're at the front of the queue picking another piece of fruit or veg ready to feed the gorgeous girl once again. Actually the second time is even better 'cos you know what to expect.

This time I concentrate on Sabu's beautiful eyes rather than her trunk - She is absolutely marvellous!

Third time around and I join a different queue so I meet another elephant - there's three gorgeous elephants at Australia Zoo - Siam, Sabu and little Bimbo (when I say little, she's still much bigger than me, but she is smaller than her sisters).

Actually, this time I get Bimbo and she wraps her trunk around your hand - very rough skin - as she picks up her tasty treat. A different experience and totally cool.

I still have time to jump on the third queue for feeding Siam.

This whole experience lasts for maybe fifteen or twenty minutes and hundreds of people get the experience to feed these awesome girls. Even better, it's at no extra cost once you get into Australia Zoo. They've timed it really well as the morning feeding at the front of the zoo at 10:30am is not longer after opening time and finishes in time to head to the Crocoseum for the show!

If you miss the morning feed, there's another afternoon feed up at their enclosure.

As a regular visitor to Australia Zoo (the whole family has Gold Membership passes) we feed the elephants every time and love it every time!

Hope you love it too!
